Found: Clara’s Sketches

Recently I received great scans of Clara’s sketches thanks to Dan McDonald of Richmond Hill, Ontario. On December 16, 2012 he wrote: ”Hi Verna here is a sketch of Clara Isabella Harris self portrait. I’m interested in learning more about this great artist, and I have more stuff”. Until Dan contacted me I had never seen a sketch done by Clara let alone this beautiful self-portrait. It reveals a Clara that looks quite different than her self-portrait in oil. Unfortunately, Dan said that the sketch had been altered as Clara’s silhouette had been cut out of the original paper and glued to a background sheet. This alters the value but not its rarity. Clara's sketches might be useful in identifying the place and time of your paintings.

Thank-you Dan!
