Impressions of Winter by Clara Harris
Clara Harris captures the cold Ontario winters long past. Pristine drifts of snow, white flakes dusting evergreens, silhouettes of naked trees against grey skies, silvery ice on lakes and rivers. the bluish watery light of winter in the north.
WINTER
Clara painted many winter scenes which is no mean feat considering the conditions and times in which she painted. Upholding the “plein-air” philosophy of painting Clara’s typical winter garb as described in the Toronto Telegram’s newspaper article was “knee-high snow boots and furs”. She also drove to northern climes in an unheated car. Now that’s motivation!
