You Decide

November 3, 2019

Yesterday I received photos from Bob H:  a beautiful scene captured by Clara.  Although there’s no documentation Bob’s information suggests it’s Nova Scotia. No matter.  Either way this work would have been an interesting addition to the September 2017 exhibit “Not Your Typical Sunday Driver” at Montgomery’s Inn described in the website’s Welcome Section: Events and Exhibits.

Bob would like to restore it but selling it is also a possibility.  Here’s what he had to say:

I recently inherited a Clara Harris painting from my father-in-law. Sadly, he was a pipe smoker and the surface is heavily stained.  Any suggestions for cleaning and conservation would be greatly appreciated.

This was probably painted in Nova Scotia, not sure of the date but to the best of my recollection, the painting was purchased in Nova Scotia in the forties by a family member vacationing here. It spent most of its life in Ontario and came back here when my in-laws moved in with us in 2001.

The painting measures approximately 16" x 20", oil on board and appears to be in the original frame. As much as I love the painting, I feel I am doing it a disservice by hiding it away in the backwoods of Nova Scotia and would be willing to sell it, as is, to a better caretaker.

Again, thank you for your time and help, if you know of anyone that would want to own this piece at an affordable price just drop me a line. No reasonable offer refused.

Even unrestored I think Bob should keep Clara’s painting.  What do you think?  If you want more information re: its purchase contact me and I’ll forward your information to Bob.
